Vital stand-bys

Do you have anything that you always keep in stock for days when you can't reach a shop or are too tired/short of time to make?
Here are mine:
- Packet mix for pizza base. (These turn out better than my own efforts from scratch)
- All-in bread mix (I've never had a good result, but when you're desperate...)
- Concentrated tomato paste (in tubes. The metal is golden inside and can be easily bent and sewn for craft projects!)

I'm afraid in a house with an albeit tiny freezer, frozen peas & beanburgers give me the illusion fo something fresh & properly cooked, which pasta & a bit of sauce, the non-freezer equivalent, don't.

I feel I can't cook anything without knowing I have onions in the house, and tins of chickpeas in the cupboard reassure me too.

I guess it's having enough non-perishables in to be able to make a meal or two without finding extra supplies - the interesting thing is where the line is drawn, and how much non-fresh food we choose to eat. I'm pretty bad, but there's far worse, and of course way better, than me...

chick peas
Tinned veg (peas, carrots, etc)
Onion (always always have onion)
Spices.

These get turned into veggie curry and does for a couple of days ( curry is always better the following day), not only that, but it can feed quite a few people too - which is great for the inpromptu visit of friends.
